The surgery went very well. It was a week ago today and most of the swelling and bruising is greatly reduced. I still have some numbness and aching but really nothing to complain about at all. I'm on a no chew diet for another week and then soft foods for 6 more, I think. That has been an adjustment but I only have loose bands providing support - no wiring - so I can consume much more than most people who had this surgery years ago. Physically, I feel great though I'm trying not to do too much since, as everyone reminds me, I have some more healing to do.

profile today

I guess there isn't so much difference in my profile. (boy, do I have a pointy nose) My bottom lip comes out a bit more and I kinda look grumpy all the time. I'm trying to be a bit conscious of it to look more pleasant. I am still a bit asymmetrical but I think I have been since my surgery a couple of years ago that paralyzed my face for about 6 months. I am still numb on my left side which probably makes a difference, too.
Overall, I'm still not sure what my motivation for this surgery was but at this point I'm glad it is done and I seem to be healing fairly quickly. I hope that it has corrected the problem with my bite and I won't struggle with my jaw anymore. And I hope that my kids recognize me when I go to school in the fall. Once I start talking I'm sure there will be no confusion.
